Weekly Update

Hi GCN Family,

In Exodus 20, right before God gives the Israelites the 10 Commandments, He says this: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” (Ex. 20:2) I think the sequence of what God is doing here is so significant. Before He gives them the Law, He reminds them that He is the God who saves them by His grace. In other words, the gospel precedes the law. A lot of times, we think of the gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ) as something that doesn’t show up until the New Testament. Read the ible cover to cover, and you see hints of the gospel all over the Old Testament. Before God ever established a covenant with Abraham, God came to him, called him, and blessed him (Gen. 12:1-3). Another way to say it is: We are saved by grace, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. (Eph. 2:8-9)

My prayer for you: Rest in His grace today. Be transformed by His grace today. Extend His grace to people in really tangible ways, today.

Much love,

Pastor Brian
