Weekly Update
Hi GCN Family,
2,000 years ago, just a few weeks after the crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven and left his remaining disciples with a mission and promised the Holy Spirit.
Fast-forward 10 days and you get to the end of Acts 1. Picture it: There are 120 Jesus-followers huddled together in an upper room of a house. They’re probably scared (because the Savior they are following was crucified, so what’s going to happen to me?). They’re uncertain about the future (because it’s been 10 days! How long do we have to wait?).
All they can do is pray. They might have just been praying for safety. Maybe some were just praying that they won’t be killed. We don’t know what those prayers sound like, but we know what happened next:
They are filled with the Holy Spirit.
From that moment on, the church is on the loose!
You can’t plan a major movement of God, just like you can’t plan Pentecost. But here’s what I know for sure: When you pray that way, all together, for 10 days, God will do SOMETHING.
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, and my prayer is do it again. Pour your Spirit out. Fill us. Empower us. Send us on mission to our neighborhood. Would you pray that with me? In fact, let me invite you to: Night of Prayer. Wednesday, June 11th @ 7pm. Goshen Room.
We are called to be a house of prayer! I hope you’ll join us as we, as a church, join together and pray. Specifically, we are seeking discernment about where God is leading us as a church to be on-mission in specific ways in our neighborhood. See you there!

Things to Know…
- Please be in prayer for Pastor Ben and Kelly. Pastor Ben’s mother, Karen Horsley, passed away this past Monday, June 2nd. She was surrounded by her two sons. We pray for comfort and strength for Pastor Ben, especially in these days.
- Dedication of Spitler Prayer Garden. This Sunday, June 8th. After the 10:30am worship service, we will gather in the patio/playground area for a ceremony of dedication of the Prayer Garden, in honor of Ben and Kelly’s 35 years of faithful ministry. Then, after the ceremony and time of prayer, stick around for an all-church picnic. I’m praying that this time will be an extra measure of love and mercy over Ben and Kelly, especially given the timing of the passing of his mother. The Lord is near!
- Donate Supplies for the Honduras Mission Trip! Check out the AMAZON GIFT REGISTRY. There are plenty of items still needed. Please order so they can arrive to the church by no later than Saturday, June 21st. Thank you for giving!
- Announcements Page. Go to the Announcements Page to stay connected. Find out more about upcoming events such as The Hot Wings Challenge on Sunday night, June 15th, Summer Camps, Summer Fun Groups, and more!
Much Love,
Pastor Brian
