Weekly Update

Hi GCN Family,

Have you been praying this simple prayer this week? -- Speak Lord, your servant is listening.

I’m grateful for the message from our summer intern, Sydney Cochran, this past Sunday. What a blessing she has been to us this summer! This Sunday will be her last Sunday with us, before she takes off for her sophomore year at Regent University. If you would like to show Syndey some love, you can give towards her LOVE OFFERING(Select “GCN Pastors-Staff-Intern Blessing” in the drop-down menu).

This coming Monday, we have 18 GCN-ers headed to Teen Camp. We’re praying blessing over them! Specifically, let’s pray for hearts that are open to the ways in which God, by His Spirit, wants to move in their lives next week.

SOME OTHER THINGS…

  1. Bee A Blessing Backpack Drive. We have the amazing opportunity to provide backpacks for more than 70 children in our neighborhood! This Sunday, you can take a “Bee” (a list of school supplies and backpack needs). All backpacks/supplies are due back by Sunday, August 17th. While we prefer for all Backpack Bees to be received in-person, you will also have the option to be a part of this even if you are out of town. Here’s how: (1) Email officeadmin@gburgnaz.org. (2) Provide your name, the number of backpacks/supplies you would like to provide, and (3) the grade-level for whom you’d like to provide.
  2. This Sunday, we begin a new series: Joy/Full. We’ll be looking at Paul’s letter to the Philippians. How can we have joy in all circumstances? If you want to get a running start before this Sunday, you can read Philippians 1 and Acts 16 (the backstory of how the church in Philippi was started). I’m really looking forward to these next few weeks together!
  3. Coffee & Lemonade Fundraiser This Sunday: On the first Sunday of every month, GCN Youth students will be running an iced coffee and lemonade shop before and after service to raise money for Nazarene Youth Conference next summer. Donations are encouraged and can be made online or in person. Grab a coffee or lemonade this Sunday to support our teens!
  4. GCN @ National Night Out: Germantown. Tuesday, August 5th. Join us as we love our neighborhood. If you’d like to be a part of helping out at our booth, you can contact Pastor Kevin (pastorkevin@gburgnaz.org). Or, just stop by and say hi! What a great opportunity to show some love! Location: Montgomery College Germantown Campus. Time: 5:00-8:00pm.
  5. Condolences for the family of Sandy Harrell. Many of you remember the Harrell family. They were a part of GCN for many years. Sandy Harrell passed away this past Sunday evening. We lift up Chris (husband) and her grown kids, Stephen and Alex. A memorial service in honor of Sandy Harrell will be held at GCN this Saturday, August 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served following the service in the Life Center.
  6. We pray for…
    • Tachiea Roland-Morris. Her surgery is now scheduled for today (Wednesday). We pray for complete recovery!
    • Pat Murphy (healing from increasing chronic pain)
    • Lisa Sharp (continued recovery)
    • Pastor Daniel Fuentes Espinal (the pastor of Jesus Te Ama Igelsia del Nazareno in Easton, MD). We mentioned his need in our prayer time on Sunday. We pray for strength for Pastor Daniel. We pray for mercy, that he can continue to complete legal status here so that he can continue good Kingdom of God work in Easton!
  7. Welcome Home Sunday (and Baptism Sunday!) is September 7th. Mark the date. Invite others to join you! Interested in baptism? CLICK HERE and select “I’m interested in baptism” to let us know. Someone will be in touch with you soon.
