Weekly Update

Hi GCN Family,

I love that the book of Revelation, as mysterious and image-driven as it is, is also so personal, relevant, and pragmatic. On Sunday, we looked at Jesus’ words to the church in Laodicea. After those words in chapter 3 will come descriptions of the throne room of God, and the Lamb that was slain, and the worship of all living creatures. So, what’s coming next is dramatic and mysterious and awe-inspiring! However, before He gets to that, Jesus just gets so practical.

Jesus essentially says to that church in Laodicea, Because I love you so much, and have set you up to be my plan for announcing the good news of Jesus to the world around you, here’s what I want you to know: You are not being a REFRESHING presence where you’ve been planted. You’re not being a HEALING and SALVATION-BRINGING presence where you’ve been planted. You’re not really doing much of anything for the Kingdom. And because of that, I’m about to spit you out of my mouth. But don’t worry, I’m still right here. I’m still knocking. Just let me in and I can make you new. (Paraphrase of Revelation 3:14-22)

Our prayer is this: Holy Spirit, fill us. Give us ears to hear from you. Empower us for your mission to love people, like Jesus, who are all around the place where you’ve planted us. Fill us to overflowing so that we might REFRESH the people who don’t know you. Fill us so full that, out of that overflow, people might experience your healing and salvation. Amen!

On Sunday, I mentioned our efforts in working with Mid-Atlantic Nazarene District leadership to explore how our church can better care for and resource those in our community in need of immigration assistance. This is a very practical way that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to our neighbors right now. If you would like to learn more or join this very grassroots effort (at this point, at least), please email me (pastorbrian@gburgnaz.org). In the meantime, check out the Nazarene Immigration Network website to learn more of the heartbeat. And join me in prayer as we continue to love people like Jesus.

Things coming up…
  1. Mother’s Day @ GCN. We want to celebrate all the women of GCN – moms, mom-like-figures, grandmothers, sisters in Christ. Show up early this Sunday for cinnamon rolls (for everyone!), and a classy coffee bar for all ladies. Who do you know in need of a little extra love? Invite them to join you this Sunday!
  2. Spitler Prayer Garden Dedication & Church Picnic. Sunday, June 8th. Mark that calendar. We’re looking forward to celebrating God’s goodness, honoring Pastors Ben and Kelly, and enjoying a picnic together.
  3. Pray for our Honduras Mission Team. June 26-July 7. They’ll be working with our ministry partners, Cocal Gracias, as they head to Puerto Cortes, Honduras. Please be in prayer for that team, that ministry, and God’s Kingdom to come, through it all!
  4. Pray for our Kids Summer Camp @ Stewartown Resource Center. July 15-17. More info coming soon, but our church has the opportunity to host a summer camp just down the street with our neighbors. Be praying over that week!

Much love,

Pastor Brian
