Weekly Update

Hi GCN Family,

I’m not a physical trainer, but I do know that if a muscle is not exercised regularly, muscular atrophy is a real risk. This is not just true physically,  it’s also true relationally, spiritually, emotionally and – get this – FINANCIALLY.

This Saturday is the first session of a 5-week course called, Financially Fit. Who is this class for? Literally everyone. If you are a 19-year-old college student with a parttime job, this class can help you learn habits for money management that will help you for the rest of your life. If you are a single adult, a married adult, a family with kids at home, an empty-nester, or a retiree, this class if for you. If you somehow don’t fit into any of those aforementioned categories, believe me, this class is for YOU.

Here’s the reality: Jesus taught about money a lot. Eleven of the 39 parables dealt with finances. The key is that Jesus was using money to try to teach us a deeper reality: It all belongs to God. It’s all from Him. It’s all for Him.

When it comes to our finances, the goal of following Jesus is not about making you more secure and more comfortable. The goal is a life of self-giving generosity. Why? Because this is how we most reflect who Jesus is. John Wesley said it like this: “Earn all you can. Save all you can. Give all you can.”

Hey, a personal note: Looking forward to being with you again this Sunday! I loved that 3 week preaching circuit. What a gift Pastors Eric, Brian, and Shane are to the church, and I know their sharing of the Word was beneficial for us, as a church. I benefited from the reminder that the church is much bigger than just 8921 Warfield Road. Still, it’ll be good to be back! It’s Transfiguration Sunday. If you’re looking for a little bible-reading challenge this week, consider reading the Mount of Transfiguration passages in 3 of the gospels: Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:2-9, and Luke 9:28-36.

We grieve with those who grieve. Val Carlton’s mother, Nora Alexander, passed away on Tuesday of this week. She was 97 years old. Please keep the family in your prayers. A Memorial Service, honoring the life of Nora, will be this Saturday, March 1st, at 2pm at GCN.

Much Love,

Pastor Brian
