Weekly Update
Hi GCN Family,
I lift my eye to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)
I don’t believe it’s coincidence that today’s Psalm (from the GCN Bible Reading plan on our Mobile App) just happened to be from Psalm 121. I don’t know about you, but I need that reminder every day. Maybe we – here in our society – especially need that reminder the day after an election. Our help comes from the LORD.
Here are today’s 3-part action items: (1) Look to Jesus. Remember that He is seated on the Throne. Trust in Him, alone. (2) By the power of the Holy Spirit inside of us, extend grace (not pride or angst) to people, especially to those with whom you disagree. (3) Practice Romans 12:15, maybe especially the last half. Lead people to Jesus with compassion, like Jesus.
Meanwhile, I’m grateful that we are a church who shows the love of Jesus to other people on Election Day. Thanks to all of you cookie-donors and volunteers who served people with a lot of joy yesterday. Here’s a direct quote from someone who voted here at GCN yesterday: “This is the best polling place ever. You all seem like you really do love people. Thank you!”
This is part of what it looks like to embody the good news of Jesus to our neighborhood! We’re committed to being a church whose foundation is built on Jesus, and we’re going to keep on loving people like Jesus! When everyone else is hitting the panic button, we’re going to be the calm in the middle of the storm.
What a great Sunday we had with the Rojas family! Many of you pledged your Faith Promise gift, already. You, as a church, have pledged $49,865, so far! If you didn’t, take a moment to CLICK HERE and fill out that online pledge. Our goal is 100% participation in this! No matter the size of the pledge, let’s invest in God’s mission around the world!
A few other things…
Much Love,
Pastor Brian
